As we should be going to press on the May issue of the Farmington Elks Track, we are still closed due to Covid-19 until at least the end of April, and unfortunately, probably longer. With nothing happening at the Lodge, the decision was made to produce a combined May-June issue, and send it sometime in May when we know more about when we may reopen. Jen is in and out of the office, as needed, and you can always leave a message on the Lodge answering machine. In the meantime, we are trying to plan a big party for when we are finally cleared to open the doors. We miss you all.
A few newsletter facts — While our patron and business card ads help to pay for the newsletter, it still costs a fair amount to process and mail printed copies each month. If we could go completely digital, we could cut the annual budget by approximately $3,000, not to mention the time needed to pick up, label, seal, stamp and deliver to the post office. Less than half of our members take advantage of the full-color digital version, and we wonder why. It can be viewed on any tablet or smart phone as well as any computer. No waiting for the post office. As an added benefit, without print constraints, we would not be locked in to our current 8-page layout. If we wanted to add a bunch of pages of event photos, we could. If we had a quiet month, there would be no need to scramble for filler material. If you’d like to help our budget, all you have to do is send us your email address. Send the information to either of the addresses above. Give it a try. Save a tree and our budget. An added benefit to being on our email list is getting almost instant notification on event changes, illnesses, any important notices. If you already follow us on Facebook, why not try a digital version of the newsletter? From the Exalted Ruler: Here we are again. Hope all is well with my fellow Elk friends during this trying time. Myself, along with all of you I am sure, are missing the camaraderie of our fellow Elks. Soon this will be over and our lives will go back to a new normal. I would like to thank all of our officers from our past year who have kept us together. Most of our new officers have been installed including myself, through virtual meetings on line which we will continue to do until we are able to meet again at the Lodge. Plans are in the works for our Exhausted Rooster Roast for Steve Luce and his award ceremonies. Bob Michela has been appointed to chair the Grand Re-opening of Lodge #1986 that will include dinner, entertainment and socializing. These dates, obviously, are not set in stone because there is no stone as of yet. Fraternally, Kevin Goshorn, PER PKP Laverne Eady
12/26/1929 - 4/3/2020 Initiated 1/21/2009 As you all know, Covid-19 made closing the Lodge a necessity. The first event cancelled was the Installation of Officers, scheduled for March 28. In order to keep things running smoothly, we took advantage of internet video conferencing and installed ER Kevin Goshorn, Leading Knight Cris Doby, Lecturing Knight Ed Hirsch, Secretary Tom Killiany, Inner Guard Jen Chinn and 5-Year Trustee Steve Luce on the scheduled day. For our first try at this sort of thing, it worked really well thanks to Lodge Secretary Tom Killiany. The House Committee and Board of Directors will probably be using this method until we are once again allowed to open our doors. Kevin plans to have a formal installation and celebration once things are back to normal.
The second casualty of the shutdow is the 8 Ball Tournament scheduled for this coming Saturday. Not knowing how long we will be closed, the call was made to cancel rather than postpone the event. There's always next year. The Children's Easter Party was set for this Sunday, but it too had to be cancelled. As to the Golf League meeting and start date, only time will tell. The current lockdown is in effect through April 13, but it's a safe assumption that it will be extended at least to the end of the month. From Office Manager Jen Chinn: I will not be in the office at any regular time. Call my cell or the Lodge phone and leave a message regarding Elk related things or just to check in and I'll get back to you. We had a check in from long-time member Bev Carr from Florida saying Hi to all. She's waiting for Covid-19 to subside and will be returning home after that. Fraternally, Jen Chinn From Lodge Secretary Tom Killiany: If you haven't done so already, please mail in your dues payment so you will be ready to visit once we are allowed to resume normal operations. We are still processing your payments and mailing out cards a few times a week. New cards are required for admission after April 1st. If you are having difficulties paying, please contact us or email me at [email protected] and we'll get with the Standing Relief Committee to see what can be worked out. Stay Safe!
